Once this year, you are to find a current biology or biochemistry-based article (describing a recent discovery, ongoing research findings, or science news story) to summarize on a blog and present to the class in three minutes or less. If there is time, we will try two per person this year.
Here is the checklist:
- The current article (within the last year ) about a research study or studies must come from a reputable science news source such as: Science (New York) Times, Science News, New Scientist, Howard Hughes Medical Institute, sciencenews.org, scicentral.com, esciencenews.com, sciencenewsdaily.org, or similar reputable sources.
- The summary must be a half to a full page long, single spaced, Times New Roman 12 font. There should not be any spelling mistakes and it should be proofed to remove any grammatical errors. Make it your best writing!
- The summary should have an opening sentence noting the main idea of the whole article and then describe what was studied, how it was studied and by whom, what is new that was found or discovered, and why does it matter – how will it be useful or how does it contribute to a broader understanding in the field of study.
- The summary should end with YOUR NAME and a complete bibliographic citation (not just a URL), and weblink if applicable, so anyone can find the article if they want to read the whole thing.
- Once complete, it should be posted to the Honors Biology page for your class block that is designated for the “BioNewsFlash Blog” at biobound.weebly.com.
